Residents of the local community of Opličići, located between Čapljina and Stolac, have united in an informal citizen group called “Together for a Clean Opličići”, with the goal of finding a solution for the collection and disposal of municipal waste in their area. Since this problem has never been properly addressed, it remains the main reason why illegal landfills continue to emerge and expand in this beautiful local community. The open burning of these dumps further pollutes the air and soil, and threatens the nearby Bregava River. As a result, the health of all residents—both in this community and the surrounding areas—is at serious risk. Below, we share a video story about the citizen group “Together for a Clean Opličići”, which, with the support of the PRAGG project – Proactive Citizens, is working to resolve this longstanding issue.
