Members of the Municipal Assembly of Gacko will, at the session scheduled for 20 October, consider the Proposal for a Decision on the Adoption of the Local Action Plan for the Prevention of Cancers of the Female Reproductive Organs for the period 2026–2030.

This document represents an important step forward in improving women's healthcare at the local level, with a particular focus on prevention, early disease detection, and raising awareness of the importance of regular preventive examinations.

The initiative is led by the Women's Association "Riječ" from Gacko, which, through an advocacy campaign implemented with the support of the PRAGG - Proactive Citizens project, seeks to contribute to establishing a systemic approach to the prevention of cancers of the female reproductive organs and to creating long-term solutions in the field of women's health protection.

Data from the Institute of Public Health of Republika Srpska also point to the need for strengthening preventive healthcare, according to which 144 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year, while 48 deaths are recorded annually.

If adopted, the plan will serve as a basis for more systematic information-sharing on health risks, encouraging preventive examinations, and strengthening local support mechanisms for women.
