After months of work with citizens, experts, institutions, and civil society organizations, the Zenica Citizens' Forum presented the results of the first phase of the project "New Vehicles - Clear Rules" and submitted a proposal for a Decision to regulate the use of electric scooters and other light electric vehicles in the city to the Zenica City Council.
Over the past months, several activities have been implemented with the aim of opening the issue of the safe use of new forms of urban mobility through dialogue, expert discussion and active involvement of citizens in creating possible solutions.
The proposal for a decision is the result of months of dialogue between citizens, experts, institutions and civil society organizations, which is why it represents a joint contribution to creating a safer and more responsible environment for the use of new forms of urban mobility in Zenica.
The support of citizens gave special value to the initiative. The petition collected 529 signatures, confirming the public's clear commitment to regulating this area through clear, fair and enforceable rules that will primarily protect pedestrians, children and young people, but also all responsible users of electric scooters.
The proposed decision is based on the principles of safety and responsibility, as well as the experiences of cities that have already regulated this area. It envisages the introduction of clear rules for the use of electric scooters and other light electric vehicles, to increase the safety of all road users, reducing the risk of accidents and creating a better quality public space for the citizens of Zenica.
The Zenica Citizens' Forum takes this opportunity to call on the councilors of the Zenica City Council to recognize the importance of this initiative and to consider and adopt the proposed decision as soon as possible. By adopting this act, Zenica would make an important step forward in the responsible regulation of an area that is rapidly developing and that requires clear rules before adopting appropriate legal solutions at higher levels of government.
The submission of the proposal for a decision to the City Council completed the first phase of the project "New Vehicles - Clear Rules", while in the following period, activities will follow to advocate for the adoption of the proposed solutions, cooperate with councilors and continuously monitor the process of their consideration through the work of the City Council. The Zenica Citizens' Forum will continue to regularly inform the public about all subsequent steps and activities within the initiative.
We would like to thank all citizens, institutions, experts, partners and media who, with their participation, contributed to making the issue of the safe use of electric scooters and other new forms of urban mobility a topic of public dialogue and concrete proposals for improving safety in our city.
