On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the Forum of Citizens of Zenica organized a roundtable discussion dedicated to the regulation of light personal electric vehicles (LPEVs), with a particular focus on electric scooters and the safety of public spaces in the city of Zenica.
The growing presence of light personal electric vehicles, especially electric scooters, without clear practical regulation is raising increasing safety concerns in the city. Citizens are particularly facing challenges on sidewalks and in pedestrian zones, where scooters are increasingly being used without clearly defined rules.
During the discussion, participants presented preliminary findings of expert and comparative analyses, examples of good practices from other local communities, as well as the challenges citizens face daily due to the lack of clear rules governing the use of these vehicles.
The event brought together representatives of institutions, traffic safety experts, civil society representatives, media, and citizens, who, through an open discussion, provided proposals and recommendations for the future regulation of this area in Zenica.
It was concluded that Zenica lacks a systematic and clearly defined solution that would enable the safe and responsible use of electric scooters and other light electric vehicles, while respecting the rights of all traffic participants and the use of public space.
The Forum of Citizens of Zenica will continue its activities through the public campaign #SafeZenica, consultations with relevant institutions, and the preparation of concrete proposals for the adoption of local regulations that will contribute to greater safety and an improved quality of life for citizens
