In response to the concerning fact that many cancers, despite regular preventive check-ups, can be detected in time and successfully treated, but are often diagnosed at a late stage in practice, the Women’s Association “Riječ” Gacko has launched activities aimed at addressing this issue.
Insufficient information, fear, and postponing medical examinations remain among the key reasons why women do not react in time, which is why the focus is on encouraging and motivating responsible behaviour towards one’s own health.
In order to present key information to citizens about the importance of regular check-ups and provide guidance on prevention, an informational stand was organized in the centre of Gacko, where materials were distributed and basic preventive guidelines were shared. This topic was further discussed through a public forum, as well as a lecture held by doctors Hristina Janjić Zirojević and Srđan Kravić, where attendees had the opportunity to receive professional and verified information, as well as answers to specific questions and dilemmas.
Direct communication with citizens showed how necessary such an initiative is – many women spoke openly for the first time about their fears and concerns. The campaign was additionally promoted through social media and local media, thereby extending its impact beyond the events themselves.
“Our goal is not to scare, but to encourage. Prevention saves lives, and that is the message we want to convey to every woman. If just one person goes for a check-up on time because of this campaign – we have already succeeded,” said a representative of the Women’s Association “Riječ”, emphasizing that citizens’ reactions were extremely positive and encouraging.
A large number of citizens showed interest, actively participated in discussions, and expressed support for this initiative, highlighting how important it is to talk openly about these topics, especially in smaller communities.
In the continuation of activities, we plan to continue with educational events through new public gatherings and cooperation with healthcare institutions, with the aim of ensuring that the message about the importance of prevention reaches as many women as possible.
Health care does not begin when a problem appears – it starts much earlier.
Stay one step ahead.
