The Women’s Association “Priroda,” in partnership with WA “Maja” and the association “ART” from Bratunac, has officially launched the process of developing and adopting an Action Plan for the Prevention of Domestic and Gender-Based Violence for the Municipality of Bratunac. Today, the first in a series of planned workshops was successfully held, bringing together key stakeholders from various sectors of the community. A multisectoral approach to building a safer community, and the development of this Action Plan, is based on cooperation among relevant institutions and experts to ensure a comprehensive response to the issue of violence.
The workshop was attended by representatives of the local government, the public security station, the social welfare center, the municipal gender equality commission, educational institutions, and non-governmental organizations. The key objectives of the Action Plan, and the joint work of these institutions and organizations, are focused on creating concrete measures that will directly improve the safety of citizens of the Municipality of Bratunac through violence prevention and victim protection, as well as strengthening multisectoral cooperation.
“Violence is a serious social issue that requires an urgent and coordinated response. Through this Action Plan, our goal is to ensure that every victim receives adequate protection, that institutions and organizations communicate more quickly and efficiently, that preventive measures are improved, victims are empowered, and better institutional and non-institutional support mechanisms are provided for families experiencing or at risk of violence,” said Željana Pjevalica on behalf of WA “Priroda.”
The President of the Municipal Gender Equality Commission, Ms. Zorica Šarčević, emphasized the need for continuous public awareness-raising on domestic violence as an unacceptable social issue, rather than a private matter.
This workshop represents only the first step in a process that will define a five-year action plan for combating violence in the Municipality of Bratunac.
