On the occasion of European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, within the campaign “Responsible Towards Myself”, the Hercegovka Women’s Association organized a roundtable discussion in Nevesinje with the aim of drawing attention to the importance of prevention, early detection of disease, and the preservation of women’s health. The event was held symbolically during this period to further highlight the relevance of the topic and to open space for discussion on its systemic resolution at the local level.
During the event, participants discussed the importance of regular preventive gynecological examinations, PAP smears and HPV testing, as well as the role of awareness and information in preventing cervical cancer and other diseases of the female reproductive system. Particular emphasis was placed on preventive action and timely response, given that early detection of the disease significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.
“We held discussions with representatives of local authorities and civil society organizations, with the participation of representatives of health institutions, the Center for Social Work, schools, the media, and women who have undergone treatment. During the discussion, the need to strengthen local support mechanisms for prevention and to improve the availability of preventive health services for women in the community was emphasized, through the adoption of a systemic solution in the form of a Local Action Plan for the Prevention of Cancers of the Female Reproductive Organs in the Municipality of Nevesinje,” representatives of the Hercegovka Women’s Association stated.
In the coming period, meetings are planned with the Mayor and the President of the Municipal Assembly of Nevesinje in order to initiate the development of the Local Action Plan, establish a working group, and ensure its adoption once it enters the assembly procedure. In parallel, through a meeting with the Assembly Committee for Health and a letter of intent addressed to all councilors, support will be sought to secure institutional backing and adoption of this document.
The event also served as an opportunity to exchange information and views on the current situation, challenges in practice, and opportunities to improve preventive measures in the field of women’s reproductive health.
Through prevention and responsible behavior, we protect our health and prevent unwanted consequences!
