In today’s fast-paced world, where the needs of organizations and communities are constantly evolving, continuous learning and development are key to success. The job shadowing program of the Institute for Youth Development KULT, as one of PRAGG’s local partners, has proven to be a powerful tool for both professional and organizational growth, empowering civil society organizations and their teams.

This time, the Institute welcomed Amila Tatarević, President of the Sarajevo-based organisation “BABY STEPS”, which was founded with a mission to improve the rights and well-being of parents, expectant parents, and children in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The organisation believes that every child deserves a safe childhood, every pregnant woman a dignified birth experience, and every family the support and understanding of their community.

During the one-day job shadowing programme, the participants shared practical experiences, tools, and examples from their day-to-day work. Tatarević learned about the Institute’s internal operations, administrative procedures, and project management approach.

“It was extremely useful, especially for a small organisation that wants to grow and has never worked within such an organised system. We have plans to grow, and I’m sure that everything I saw today will be very helpful. The individual advice was invaluable, as was the discussion about the dilemmas we face. I heard expert perspectives based on experience, both with administrative and project-related issues,” Tatarević said.

She noted that the visit came at precisely the right time for her organisation and she is confident that the experience will significantly contribute to Baby Steps’ further development.

Learning through practice and real-life experience is often the most effective way to build new competencies. Job shadowing offers just that -an opportunity to acquire practical skills through observation and collaboration, which participants can apply in their everyday work. It’s also a step toward stronger cooperation among civil society organizations.

The BABY STEPS association is a partner organization involved in the PRAGG project, funded by the Government of Switzerland and implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina by a consortium of HELVETAS and NIRAS, in partnership with local partners, the Centers for Civic Initiatives (CCI) and the Institute for Youth Development KULT.
