A citizens’ forum in Srbac gathered young people, representatives of local organizations, and government officials with the aim of openly discussing the challenges and priorities of youth. The event was organized by "Zdravo da ste" and UG C.E.Z.A.R. as part of the “Sustainable Youth Centers” campaign.
Young participants clearly highlighted the lack of infrastructure, unreliable public transport, a shortage of activities, and insufficient public spaces for socializing. They especially emphasized the need for more opportunities for learning, personal development, and community engagement.
For the participants, a youth center is much more than just a physical space—it is a safe place for free expression, social interaction, sharing ideas, gaining knowledge, and receiving support. “It’s where we feel accepted, free to speak our minds, and eager to learn new things,” said the youth.
“These responses are not a wish list, but a clear indication of the willingness of young people to stay and contribute to their communities. Our task is to turn these messages into concrete steps and ensure their voices are heard in decision-making processes,” stated the organizers.
All suggestions and conclusions collected during the Forum will be compiled into an advocacy document that the organizers will submit to decision-makers, aiming to initiate tangible changes that meet the real needs of young people.
The goal of the forum was to provide space for youth expression and is part of the broader “Sustainable Youth Centers” campaign, which advocates for preserving youth centers as safe, accessible, and long-term sustainable spaces for growth, learning, and active youth participation. In the coming period, forums will also be held in Teslić, Prnjavor, and Banja Luka to amplify the voices of even more young people from diverse local communities.
