The citizens' association "Faith&Hope" from Brčko District BiH, in collaboration with partners UG Demos, the Laila Foundation, and the Association of Multiple Sclerosis Patients, organized a street action to highlight the challenges faced by people with disabilities in securing employment, particularly in the public sector.

The event, held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Trg Mladih in Brčko, brought together citizens who supported the cause by signing a petition calling for the urgent adoption of the Law on Professional Rehabilitation, Training, and Employment of People with Disabilities, including the introduction of employment quotas in the public sector.

Why is this Initiative Important?
The Brčko District of BiH is the only part of the country that has yet to adopt a law regulating the rights of people with disabilities to employment and professional rehabilitation. The absence of such legislation further hinders their access to the labor market and contributes to the discrimination of this vulnerable group.

Our message is clear: “A strong community starts with inclusion: Employing people with disabilities benefits the whole society.” Employing individuals with disabilities is not only a matter of social justice but also a cornerstone for building an inclusive and productive society.

Engaging the Public
During the action, citizens had the opportunity to learn about the challenges faced by people with disabilities, engage in discussions with representatives of organizations working on this issue, and show their support by signing the petition.

What’s Next?
The petition, along with the collected signatures, will be submitted to the relevant institutions, accompanied by a demand for the urgent adoption of the law and concrete steps toward implementing employment quotas for people with disabilities in the public sector.

We invite the public, the media, and decision-makers to join this initiative, as together we can bring about changes that ensure equality for all members of our society.
