More than 20 children with developmental disabilities live in Jablanica. However, they currently lack access to education, schooling, and developmental opportunities within their hometown. To address this need, parents of children with developmental disabilities have launched an initiative to establish an Inclusive Center in Jablanica. The demand for such a center, similar to those available in other cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is high, as parents are now forced to travel to other cities, such as Mostar and Sarajevo, to access professional support for their children.

Since establishing and equipping an Inclusive Center requires significant funding, the parents are appealing to local authorities in Jablanica to allocate 80,000 BAM in the 2025 budget for the creation and operation of the center. This amount would be used not only for setting up and furnishing the center but also to employ professionals such as psychologists, special educators, rehabilitators, medical technicians, speech therapists, and occupational therapists who would work with the children and their parents. Inclusion in the 2025 budget would be of immense importance for families in Jablanica, as it would allow their children to receive daily support from experts who could help them improve life skills, social abilities, and motor skills.

To ease the current, very challenging situation, parents of children with developmental disabilities have begun the registration process for the association "Budi mi prijatelj" (Be My Friend). The association aims to lead all activities related to the establishment and functioning of the Inclusive Center in Jablanica, where children with developmental disabilities could engage with professionals such as special educators, speech therapists, and psychologists. This inclusive environment would support the children's development and learning through play, and the center is intended to operate on an extended-stay basis, offering support not only to the children but also to their parents.

Edina Husrep, the mother of a child with developmental disabilities, speaks to the importance of opening the Inclusive Center in Jablanica: “We sincerely hope that our wish will come true and that children with developmental disabilities from Jablanica will have an Inclusive Center – a facility that will provide a welcoming atmosphere for every child. It will be a place where both children and parents can come with confidence, where each child’s needs and interests will be respected and supported, regardless of the reasons for their visit.”
