A press conference held in Brčko District, BiH, highlighted the challenges people with disabilities face in securing employment and outlined the goals of a new project led by the NGO "Vjera&Nada", in partnership with Demos, the Laila Foundation and the Multiple Sclerosis Association.
Brčko remains the only part of BiH without a law on professional rehabilitation and employment for people with disabilities, limiting their access to equal job opportunities and social inclusion.
“While the law won't solve every issue, it is essential for fair employment access,” organizers emphasized. The proposed law would introduce job quotas in the public sector, encouraging opportunities in the private sector as well. They also stressed the need for the Brčko government to lead by example by hiring people with disabilities in public administration, showing that, with the right accommodations, they can perform all tasks effectively.
The organizers announced plans to launch a petition urging swift adoption of the law and have reached out to authorities to clarify its current status in the legislative process. These efforts aim to raise awareness and promote inclusion, reflecting the project’s message: “A strong community starts with inclusion: Employing people with disabilities benefits everyone.”
Vjera&Nada and its partners are calling on citizens, institutions, and decision-makers to support the initiative and help create a more inclusive society in Brčko District.
