A successful street action was held on Korzo in Tuzla as part of the campaign "We Will Not Die in Silence", aimed at collecting signatures in support of amendments to the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This action was organized as part of the project "For Better Protection of Women Against Violence in FBiH", implemented by the organization "Glas žene" from Bihać, CURE Foundation from Sarajevo, "Ženska vizija" from Tuzla, "Tim volim život" Association from Cazin, and "Izvor" Association from Sanski Most.

During the action, citizens signed a petition to support the Initiative to introduce femicide as a distinct criminal offense in the Criminal Code of FBiH.

Amela Hajvaz Pozderović, the regional coordinator of the project, emphasized: "The goal of the action is to collect 10,000 signatures from citizens of FBiH so we can submit the initiative for amending the Criminal Code to the parliamentary procedure. This amendment involves recognizing femicide as an aggravating circumstance in the murder of a woman. Unfortunately, we in Tuzla Canton lead in the number of femicides compared to other cities, so it’s not surprising to see such a strong response from our community in signing the petition. Over the next two months, volunteers from 'Ženska vizija' will be on the streets of Tuzla and other cities in Tuzla Canton to continue gathering signatures. Our message is clear - 'We Will Not Die in Silence'!"

A statement for the media was also given by volunteer Samira Hasanović from "Ženska vizija": "There has been a great response from the youth in today's campaign, and everyone wants femicide to be punished as severely as possible, as well as for perpetrators to receive the harshest prison sentences".

Let’s remind ourselves that in the first half of 2024 alone, seven women were brutally murdered, which serves as an alarming signal for urgent legal changes.

We invite all citizens to join our fight by signing in support of this initiative and thus contribute to better protection for women in the Federation of BiH.
