Today, a three-day street action began in Sanski Most, organized by the informal group “Network of Young Activists” to draw attention to the long-standing issue of stray dogs in the municipality. The street action, taking place in Mali Park, has brought together activists and residents of Sanski Most, determined to find a long-term solution to this problem.
“Many residents of Sanski Most face daily fear due to the increasing number of abandoned dogs on the streets. Although local authorities have allocated funds on several occasions to address this issue, the actual effects on the ground are minimal. For this reason, we decided to take the initiative and try to establish a system of control over the stray dog population,” stated Adem Kahrimanović, on behalf of the “Network of Young Activists.”
As part of the street action, activists distributed information on the importance of dog sterilization and responsible pet ownership. They also highlighted the risks that abandoned dogs pose to residents, as well as the lack of adequate medical resources for treating dog bites in local healthcare facilities. They discussed issues with existing dog shelters in Sanski Most, where there are suspicions of mismanagement and inadequate conditions in the state-run shelter, while the private shelter lacks sufficient support from authorities. Activists also presented their goals, including initiating the development of a Plan for the Management of Stray Dogs in the Sanski Most Municipality, with active engagement from their organization and submitting an official initiative to the mayor and relevant services of the municipality, as well as raising awareness among the residents of Sanski Most about the problem of stray dogs.
The three-day action will continue over the next two days, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, during which activists will continue to educate residents and gather support for systemic solutions to this issue.
“We invite all citizens to join this action and contribute to creating a safer and more humane community for all residents of Sanski Most, both people and animals,” added Adem.
