Guidepost for Change: Training in Žepče for an Active Community!

The cycle of training on the use of formal consultation mechanisms in local communities across Bosnia and Herzegovina began with a training session in Žepče on April 27, 2024. This training represented an important step in empowering the citizens of Žepče and motivated them to actively participate in decision-making processes at the local level.

Citizens were drawn to the unusual topic and working model, emphasizing the importance of their participation in the decision-making process: "During the training, I learned ways to get involved in solving problems in the local community, and I will definitely apply that knowledge in practice and become an even more useful part of the community. I'm sorry it didn't last longer," said one of the participants.

The training provided participants with insight into the legal framework and standards regulating citizen participation in decision-making processes. One participant stated: "After the training, I believe our attitude towards local governments and our perception of how we can influence them has changed significantly."

Furthermore, the training enabled participants to develop skills in public advocacy and civic participation, which are crucial for effectively expressing views and interests in the public sphere. Citizen participation is essential for community progress, and this training provided them with the necessary tools and confidence to actively contribute to improving opportunities for all.

In the coming weeks, training sessions will be organized in Mostar, Gradiška, Gradačac, Bijeljina, Prijedor, and Zenica. For all information, please contact via email selma.sljivo@mladi.org or phone 033 778 772.
