The announcements made at the beginning of December, regarding the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, have been confirmed – with the adoption of the 2026 Budget, the City of Cazin has become the third local government unit in the Federation of BiH to systematically resolve the financing of organizations of persons with disabilities, and the first such unit in the Una-Sana Canton.
The City Council of Cazin adopted the 2026 Budget on December 30, 2025, totaling 65 million KM. Within this framework, organizations of persons with disabilities that make up the Network of Disability Associations (MIU) of Cazin officially received their place.
In this way, the campaign to establish systematic financing for the Network of Disability Associations has been successfully concluded. This achievement is the result of the initiative of the Network of Disability Associations of Cazin, launched and led with the support of the PRAGG project.
Although the adoption of this decision was announced in early December, the final confirmation came through the city budget, which clearly specifies that 7,000 KM is allocated for each MIU member. In addition, the budget allows MIU members to apply, through project proposals, for an additional grant of 10,000 KM.
For the first time, stable and secure funding for the work of organizations of persons with disabilities in Cazin has been provided through a special budget code.
In addition to the Cazin Dystrophy Association, which led the campaign, the network also includes the Cazin Paraplegics Association, the Association of Cancer Patients, and the Association of Parents of Children with Disabilities “Our Children Are Also Children.”
This result, along with other progress achieved in recent periods, confirms that the synergy between civil society organizations and local government units can lead to concrete improvements in the position of vulnerable social groups. In this case, it concerns persons with disabilities, but such models of cooperation can serve as a strong motivation for other associations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the clear message that joint action and persistence significantly increase the chances of solving systemic problems.
