Good news was received at the end of last year by the members of the informal citizens' group "Network of Young Activists" from Sanski Most, who have been advocating for a systemic solution to the problem of stray dogs in their municipality for months. The news, to the general benefit of all the residents of this border town, was confirmed in January 2025 in the Official Gazette. The Municipal Council of Sanski Most allocated 100,000 KM in the current year’s budget to address the issue of street dogs.
This commendable step marks the beginning of a process in which the dogs roaming the streets of Sanski Most will be humanely sterilized, neutered, chipped, removed from the streets to animal shelters, and ultimately adopted. Representatives of the newly elected local government fulfilled their promise made during the election campaign and immediately set to work on solving a problem faced by many local communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is important to note that the expressed will and need to resolve this pressing issue for the people of Sanski Most was not just empty words, but immediate action was taken to address the problem.
To ensure that all activities are transparent and for the benefit of all citizens of Sanski Most, representatives of the NGO "Network of Young Activists" will be involved, as invited by the Mayor of Sanski Most, to participate in the Working Group for the development of a new, comprehensive stray dog management plan. In addition to the representative from the "Network of Young Activists," the Working Group will consist of representatives from other civil society organizations, local authorities, the veterinary station, and the cantonal inspector. The "Network of Young Activists" has stated that they will continue their efforts to resolve this long-standing problem, and that the people of Sanski Most can achieve a lot when they are organized.
We remind that the Mayor of Sanski Most, Mensur Seferović, stated that there is a desire and intention to establish cooperation with the "Dog's Trust" Foundation. This cooperation would be of great significance, as it concerns a Foundation that has achieved significant results in recent years in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the areas of neutering, sterilization, and adoption of abandoned dogs.
